Why is Webflow's pricing sometimes confusing?
And how to get your bearings fast
Webflow is a powerful tool for building sites without code, but its pricing structure can be a little confusing for newcomers. That's because it has two main types of plans — Site plans and Workspace plans — and each one is meant for something different.
The two basic plan types
1. Site plans
This plan applies to one specific website. It includes:
- Hosting (fast and reliable)
- An SSL certificate
- The option to connect your own domain
- On the higher tiers: a CMS (Content Management System) and e-commerce features
Good for: companies, entrepreneurs, bloggers, or anyone who needs to get a site online.
Current prices (May 2025):
- Basic: $14/month (billed annually)
- CMS: $23/month
- Business: $39/month
- Ecommerce Standard: $29/month + a 2% transaction fee
- Ecommerce Plus: $74/month
- Ecommerce Advanced: $212/month
2. Workspace plans
You pay per user account — ideal for designers, freelancers, or agencies who build multiple projects.
- The ability to manage several sites without active hosting (unhosted projects)
- Access to team collaboration (on the higher tiers)
- The ability to export clean HTML/CSS/JS code
Good for: freelancers, teams, agencies, and more advanced users.
Current prices:
- Starter: free (up to 2 unpublished projects)
- Freelancer: $24/month (billed annually)
- Agency: $42/month
What's included in the price
- Fast hosting via Amazon Web Services and the Fastly CDN
- An SSL certificate for secure site delivery
- A CMS for managing content without touching code
- E-commerce support (only on the store plans)
- Backups, versioning, forms, code export, and more
The most common scenarios and what I'd recommend
Small business site: Site plan – Basic
Blog or editorial content: Site plan – CMS
Site with a store: Site plan – Ecommerce Plus
Freelancer with multiple clients: Workspace plan – Freelancer
Agency with several collaborators: Workspace plan – Agency
What to watch out for
- CMS limits — the number of CMS items is capped (for example, 2,000 on the CMS plan)
- Code export is only available on Workspace plans
- Store plans add transaction fees on top
How to choose the right one?
First, answer one question: Am I going to publish the site, or am I just designing it for someone else?
And based on that:
- A published site = you want a Site plan
- Designing and managing multiple sites = you need a Workspace plan
