Google is no longer the only search engine

Until a year ago, you optimized the site for Google and that was it. Today, your potential clients are asking ChatGPT, searching through Perplexity, or clicking on Google AI Overviewusing classic results.

And here's the essential change -- search engine AI doesn't rank 10 blue links. They read your website, understand it (or not), and either quote you or skip you completely. No second page of results. You're either in reply or you're not.

The good news? If you have a website on Webflow, you have a great foundation. But there are a few things you need to do differently than traditional SEO.

What AI Search Engines Actually Want

Classic SEO is all about keywords, backlinks, and technical parameters. AI search engines solve something else — can they easily read, understand and use your content as an answer source?

According to research from 2025 and 2026, this can be summarized in three questions:

Is your content clear and specific? AI models prefer sites that directly answer the question. No long introductions, no misting. Straight answer above, details below that.

Does AI know who you are? Consistent identity across the site — name, services, location, contact. The clearer your “entity profile” is, the more likely the AI will cite you as a trusted source.

Is your website technically readable? Clean HTML, correct hierarchy of headings, structured data (schema markup). The AI crawler must read your content without hindrance.

Practical steps in Webflow

Structure content as a response

Every important page should begin with a brief summary in 2-3 sentences — a direct answer to what the page addresses. Imagine ChatGPT quoting the first paragraph of your page. Does that make sense? Is it useful?

Use headings (H2, H3) as specific questions, not decorative texts. Instead of “Our Services” I prefer “How much does a website cost on Webflow?” or “How long does it take to create a site?”. AI models love these formats.

Add schema markup

Since 2025, Webflow can automatically generate schema markup from page content. This is a huge advantage over manual coding. Make sure you have it set:

Organization schema — company name, logo, contact, social networks. This is what AI says “who is the author of this site.”

WebPage and Article schema — automatically generated from page settings and CMS. Make sure you have a title, description, and OG image on each page.

FAQ schema — if you have a FAQ section on your page (and you should), wrap it in FAQ structured data. In Webflow, you can do this through custom code in the CMS template or through the new schema markup feature.

Breadcrumb schema — helps AI understand the hierarchy of your site. In Webflow, you set it through the navigation structure.

Build Thematic Clusters

AI search engines trust websites that cover a topic in depth. One article about Webflow is not enough. But when you have a hub page called “Webflow Development” and it spoke pages about the price list, migration from WordPress, SEO in Webflow and the like — AI perceives you as the authority on this topic.

In Webflow, this is easy via CMS. You create a “Blog” collection, add categories, and honestly link articles to each other. Internal lines aren't just for users — they tell AI how your pages relate to each other.

Write for citation, not scroll

This is probably the biggest shift in thinking. With classic SEO, you want people to scroll and spend as much time as possible on the page. With AI optimization, you want your content to be so clear and accurate that the AI selects it as a source.

What it means practically:

Facts instead of fluff. “Webflow website costs from 40,000 CZK, a simple landing page from 15,000 CZK” is better than “prices vary depending on the scope of the project.”

Specific numbers, steps, comparisons. AI models love step lists, small tables and direct comparisons. They are easy to extract and quote.

Clear authorship. Each article should have a visible author with bio and credentials. “Jan Vodvárka — Webflow Premium Partner” is a trust signal that AI evaluates.

Technical Basics

Speed. AI crawlers have limits on how many pages they pass. Slow web = less pro-indexed content. Webflow hosting is great for this, but optimize the images and scripts.

Pure HTML. Webflow generates clean, semantic code. Don't break it by hiding important text in custom code embeds or behind JS interactions. The key content must be in HTML, not generated by JavaScript.

Sitemap and robots.txt. Webflow generates automatically. Make sure your sitemap contains all the important pages and nothing is unnecessarily blocked.

llms.txt — a novelty that some AI systems are starting to support. It is a file in the root of the site that tells the AI what it finds on the site and what is important. So far, it's experimental, but it's worth creating.

What Webflow can do and the competition doesn't

Here's why Webflow is a strong choice for AI optimization:

Automatic schema markup from page content — you don't have to manually type JSON-LD for each page.

Clean, semantic HTML — no proprietary code like Wix or Squarespace, which AI crawlers are harder to parse.

CMS with dynamic pages — easy creation of thematic clusters, where each article automatically takes schema from template.

Fast hosting on AWS — Webflow sites load fast, which means more pro-indexed pages.

Full control over <head> — you can add custom schema, meta tags, llms.txt and anything else without restrictions.

Don't panic, but start now

AI search won't kill classic SEO. It's more likely to expand it with a new layer. Sites that are well structured, communicate their expertise clearly, and have a clean technical foundation will thrive in both worlds.

And if you already have a website on Webflow — you have a head start. Just tighten the schema markup, restructure the content towards direct answers, and start building thematic authority.
